This French Apple Tart (Tarte Pretty aux Pommes) is a conventional dessert in France. Easy and fulfilling, it is most productive made with candy dessert apples that accumulate no longer “collapse” when cooked (Cox, Granny Smith and plenty others..). I add a layer of applesauce between the pastry and apples. —The Flexitarian

    puff pastry


  • 8.5 ounces

    dessert apples – for the applesauce


  • 3-4

    medium dessert apples


  • 1 teaspoon

    vanilla extract


  • 2 tablespoons

    Dairy free butter


  • 2 tablespoons

    light brown muscovado sugar

Directions
  1. To construct the applesauce, peel & core 300g [8.5oz] of apples. Space in a saucepan with 4 Tbsp of water. Quilt and cook dinner below medium warmth except it has diminished to applesauce (round 10 mins). Use from warmth. Add vanilla. Droop away of the aspect.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4.
  3. Roll out puff pastry to suit a rectangular oven tray. Approximatively 37 x 26cm (10 x 14.5 inches).
  4. Even as you build the apple sauce open reducing the replacement apples into skinny slices using a consuming knife or mandoline.
  5. When the applesauce is ready, unfold it evenly on top of the puff pastry leaving a skinny border (2cm / 0.8 walk) all over.
